In Belgrade, on May 22 and 23, 2024, the regional Reshaping Work Conference 2024 “Future of Work Revisited: Platform Work in the Age of AI” was held, organized by the Public Policy Research Centre, the Amsterdam-based Reshaping Work initiative, and the Institute of Economic Sciences from Belgrade. The conference was opened by Branka Anđelković and Tanja Jakobi from the Public Policy Research Centre, and Dr. Jovan Zubović, Director of the Institute of Economic Sciences.
The conference was attended by members of the DI-MARC team: Ivana Domazet, Vladimir Simović, Aida Hanić, and Milena Lazić, while Valentina Vukmirović was a member of the Organizing Committee of the Conference.
The Reshaping Work Regional Conference 2024 addressed significant changes in digital work, particularly in Eastern and Southeastern Europe, due to the pandemic and advancements in artificial intelligence. Key discussions during the conference focused on the development of platform work (remote work) and its effects on various stakeholders, including workers and businesses. Additionally, the conference placed significant emphasis on AI, skill development, and intersectionality within the platform economy.
During the two dynamic days of the conference, representatives from academia, policymakers, legal experts, platform workers, union representatives, labor rights advocates, and industry representatives participated in the discussions. The goal of the conference was to shed light on the complex relationships between new technologies, necessary skills, and the changing professional environment in the context of online platform work. Furthermore, these trends were critically analyzed from various conceptual and practical perspectives, to support the development of technology and the platform economy in Southeastern European countries.
